Hoffenheim vs Union…
It is the duel between two who have left their mark on FC Zurich. Since the monument to Urs Fischer, who played 302 times for Zurich and only just missed the championship title as coach in 2011. There André Breitenreiter, who made himself immortal by winning the title last season. Now the two meet with Union Berlin and Hoffenheim – with the better end for Fischer. The Union force the turnaround after the break and win 3-1 in Berlin snowstorms.
Hoffenheim initially put in a mature performance at the Alte Försterei – and scored to make it 1-0, which is well worth seeing. Ilhas Bebou executes shortly before the break after a counterattack from his own half of the field.
Siebatcheu fails from the penalty point
However, TSG needs luck for the half-time lead. Ex-Young-Boy Jordan Siebatcheu fails with a hand penalty on the post. The competitive luck that helped Union storm to the top of the table in autumn is still a long time coming before the break. Yet!
After the break, Union turns up the heat. Doing everything to avert the third loss in the fourth game. And it works: About 20 minutes before the end, Danilho Doekhi heads a cross from Captain Christopher Trimmel into the goal. And just before the end, unbridled jubilation breaks out again in the Alte Försterei: Union leads – with an almost identical goal. Again Doekhi hits the head, Trimmel crosses again. In stoppage time, Leweling makes everything clear.
Fischer and Breitenreiter shake hands fairly at the end of the game. Even before that, they left no doubt about the mutual esteem. “He enjoys great recognition in Switzerland, everyone there also perceives his successes with Union Berlin,” said Breitenreiter in “kicker” about Fischer. “Also because he has remained a completely normal person and does not take himself so seriously. He doesn’t produce headlines in order to have media presence, but defines himself exclusively through sporting success, which every Swiss person likes and I do too.”
Contact thanks to Fischer’s daughter Riana
The two dueled for the first time on this Bundesliga matchday. But they have been in contact for a long time – because of Fischer’s daughter Riana. Breitenreiter says: “We met because his daughter played in the women’s team at FC Zurich, so he was more often at the games.” At the women’s cup final, the two even sat next to each other. There was still enough time to talk shop. “A fine person and a great coach,” said Breitenreiter.
Fischer returned the flowers. “He did an outstanding job with FC Zurich. You can only congratulate him on that. He has left behind teams like Bern and Basel, which are actually among the favourites. He left his mark there.”
While Breitenreiter is still trying to do that in Hoffenheim, Fischer has long since succeeded in Berlin. (mis)
