SFV President Dominique Blanc
«We have decided to support Infantino»
As a result of the ban on captain’s armbands, the Danish Football Association has announced that it will no longer support Gianni Infantino in his re-election as FIFA President. For the SFV, turning away from Infantino is not (yet) an issue.

SFV President Laurent Blanc is currently supporting Fifa boss Gianni Infantino.
The world football association Fifa and especially its president Gianni Infantino have been heavily criticized since the start of the World Cup. So far, however, there has apparently been no reason for the Swiss Football Association not to support the Valais in the spring of 2023 re-election, as Dominique Blanc reveals in an interview with the Tagesanzeiger.

There are apparently not many reasons for holding on, because Blanc can only name two of them in the interview: “He is the only candidate who is even up for election. We now had this problem with Fifa. But I also like to remind you: Fifa accompanied the process for more rights in Qatar initiated by our working group and supported us in doing so.”
Despite praise for the cooperation: Infantino can’t seem too sure about it. Because Blanc emphasizes that the final decision is still pending: “We have decided to support Infantino. But just: That was a month ago and before the recent events. The election is in March 2023. We will definitely decide in due course. Until then, we will monitor the situation.”
Blanc disappointed and sad
In the past week, in addition to what was happening on the pitch, there was a lot of focus on the captain’s armband theater – and this apparently left deep wounds in the trust between the Swiss Football Association and the world association. Dominique Blanc emphasizes that he is “disappointed and sad”.
“We wanted to protect the players and team from further unrest.”Dominique Blanc, President of the Swiss Football Association
The criticism after the “One Love” affair against the associations and the teams was harsh, but the 73-year-old considers it unjustified: “Put yourself in the role of the player. You’ve been preparing for this tournament for years, and the dispute over the armband moved you too. We and the other associations had reached a point where we wanted to protect our players and our team from further unrest.” (hon)
