Will Gianinazzi be burned in Lugano?
Luca Gianinazzi (30) is not to be envied. His HC Lugano is third from bottom and has lost three times in a row. Whereby the last bankruptcy hurts twice because it was conceded in the derby.

Luca Gianinazzi has been with Lugano since October.
It was a bold move when HC Lugano fired Chris McSorley in October and replaced him with youth coach Luca Gianinazzi (30). Finally a club gave a young Swiss a chance. Unlike some others, the Ticino didn’t hesitate and accepted the challenge.
After initial difficulties, the Bianconeri gained momentum under him. But now Lugano have suffered three defeats in a row, most recently in the six-point games on the pre-playoff line against the SCL Tigers and Ambri.

Anyone familiar with the volatile hockey and media scene in Ticino will not be surprised that there is unrest as a result. When the derby was broadcast after the end of the game on Teleticino, it was excitedly reported that CEO Marco Werder would not comment. And Marco Müller was asked if Gianinazzi could come out of the hole – which the striker said yes. Gianinazzi was not spared such questions either. But he made a confident impression.
«Luca knows what he is doing. He has a clear idea of what he wants, »says Lugano sports director Hnat Domenichelli (46) to Blick. “When Luca looks back on a 25-year coaching career, he will say that these moments were particularly important for him.”
“We want to do a real rebuild”
It’s a tradition in Lugano to point to the coach when things aren’t going well. Since the last championship title (2006) there have been 22 changes to the gang.

Will Gianinazzi also be burned in Lugano? Domenichelli, who said almost three months ago that Gianinazzi would be his last coach, declined. “We now have the chance to show that we have learned from the mistakes of the past and that we can be patient.” He is already planning next season with Gianinazzi, says the Swiss-Canadian. “We want to do a real rebuild.”
HC Lugano will probably never be able to break out of the vicious circle of constant coaching changes and setbacks if the club’s management around President Vicky Mantegazza doesn’t withstand public pressure at least once and show real patience.
Domenichelli, who scolded the team on Thursday, has signed a new foreign defender to give Gianinazzi a helping hand and strengthen the defence. It is the Czech Lukas Klok (27) from Rögle. The international has signed a contract until the end of the season.
