The sensational World Championship run ends for Gabriel Clemens in the semifinals.
The fairy tale is over. Gabriel Clemens loses 6-2 to Michael Smith (32) and is eliminated in the World Cup semifinals.
Smith, the «Bully Boy», is on the one hand too solid, on the other hand Clemens is too flawed. On Monday evening he lacked the strength in the doubles, which still distinguished him in the quarterfinals against Gerwyn Price. The “German Giant” can still keep up to 2: 2, then the Englishman pulls away.
“The better player won today,” summed up the 39-year-old Saarlander in the “Sport1” interview. He didn’t show his best game, Smith, on the other hand, scored very well and “constantly presented me with difficult tasks”.
Smith is now in the final of a PDC World Championship for the third time. In 2019 and 2022 he had to leave the stage as a loser, three years ago his opponent was Michael van Gerwen. He could meet him again this year, the Dutchman will play against Dimitri van den Bergh in the second semi-final for the second ticket to the final. (che)
