When a player moves from Cadiz to Deportivo La Coruna, it usually doesn’t make the big headlines. But this time everything is a little different. And for two reasons. Because Lucas Perez (34) not only changes two leagues down, but even pays for the fee.
As “Marca” reports, the striker paid around half (493,000 euros) of the one million euros that Cadiz wanted out of his own pocket. Deportivo La Coruna will pay the remaining 507,000 euros. For Perez it is an affair of the heart. After all, he was born in A Coruña in 1988.
Now Perez should help to bring the club from north-west Spain back into shape. The former champion and CL participant has sunk into the third class. There he plays, among others, against the second teams of Real Madrid and Celta Vigo. Not enough for the claims of the once successful club.
Perez back home
Perez is under contract with Deportivo La Coruna for the fourth time. In any case, the Spaniard is known for his many transfers. He was already under contract with ten clubs. His highlight: In 2017 he moved to Granit Xhaka’s Arsenal for 20 million euros, played 14 games there and scored four goals. But after just a year in England, he has made himself comfortable in Spain again.
After stops in Alaves and Elche, Perez landed in Cadiz at the end of January 2022. There he played a total of 29 games (six goals), in the first half of the current season he came 14 times (three goals). The 34-year-old has been back home for a few days.
