Perfect conditions and finally a race on the Matterhorn.

Sun, good snow, no wind: high above Zermatt, a ski race took place on Saturday in perfect conditions. Only: It wasn’t the men’s World Cup downhill race as hoped (it was canceled due to lack of snow), but a guest race with prominent ex-ski cracks.

Also present on the “Gran Becca” slope: Ski legend Pirmin Zurbriggen, Bruno Kernen (world champion 1997), Didier Défago (slope builder and Olympic champion 2010), Fränzi Aufdenblatten and many more. On the one hand they led groups with amateur skiers, on the other hand the individual times also counted. Ultimately, Pirmin Zurbriggen’s son Elia, also a former World Cup athlete, swung out at the top.
