The ZSC Lions secure further reinforcements from the north. After Finnish defender Mikko Lehtonen, the defeated playoff finalist signed Swedish center Lucas Wallmark. The 26-year-old signed for three years.
Wallmark, who comes to Zurich for his compatriot Marcus Krüger (to Djurgarden), last played in the Russian-influenced KHL for CSKA Moscow. He previously played 204 NHL games (64 points) for the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Chicago Blackhawks.
Wallmark left CSKA because of the war
Wallmark is currently in action with Sweden at the World Cup. Earlier this year, he was selected to the All-Star team at the Olympics thanks to five goals in six games.
Wallmark left the future KHL champion and army club CSKA prematurely because of the Russian attack on Ukraine and therefore gave up a lot of money. “Considering what Ukrainian families are losing and what horrors reach us from there, my sacrifice is small,” he told Swedish broadcaster SVT Sport.
