EV Zug lost the first leg of the CHL semi-final against Tappara Tampere 0-2.

It is the duel between the Finnish and Swiss champions. The winner moves into the final of the Champions Hockey League. Achieving this is a major goal for the people of Zug. But with Tappara Tampere a team is standing in their way, which is becoming a tough nut for EVZ.
Zug’s coach Dan Tangnes warned after the 4-2 defeat in Kloten on Sunday that patience and discipline would be needed to get a good starting position against the Finns for the second leg on January 17th. But the people of Zug lack both.
Zug false start
After just 72 seconds and the first shot at goal from EVZ champion goalie Leonardo Genoni, Zug is behind. They lack the confidence to turn a game, even if it’s not going optimally. The Finns are more convincing in disc possession, faster in movement and in their decisions. The people of Zug have a long time struggling to launch an orderly attack from their zone.
Only in the middle third do they play more courageously and come up with promising chances to score, which Tampere mainly has before that. At the same time, they keep slowing themselves down with penalties. once with
fatal consequence: They give the Finns too much freedom in the power play and concede the second goal.
Penetration is missing
A 0:2 would still not be a hopeless starting position. But EVZ trainer Tangnes – clearly audible over the microphone – demands a hit from his players. Only: If you sniff it, the impeccable top goalie Christian Heljanko stands in your way, whom you only see from afar for too long stretches of the duel. There is a lack of penetrating power, because the sovereign Finns can neither be brought out of position nor out of calm on the defensive. The EVZ doesn’t manage to score in the hard-fought final phase.
After a flawless lead in this CHL competition so far, the EVZ concedes its first defeat in the first leg of the semi-finals. What does it take to get ahead? The people of Zug have to find a way to break through the compactness of the Finns. With more consistency in all areas.
