British-American influencer Andrew Tate and three suspected accomplices remain in Romanian custody.
A court in Bucharest on Friday ruled that Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan and two suspected Romanian accomplices must remain in prison at least until February 27, Romanian news agency Mediafax reported. Those affected can lodge an objection within 48 hours.
The four suspects were arrested on December 30, 2022. The detention was originally limited to January 29. In Romania, a suspect may be held in pre-trial detention for a maximum of 30 days during criminal prosecution, but it can be extended by the court at the request of the public prosecutor’s office.
Alleged to have sexually exploited women
Prosecutors allege that the Tate brothers formed an organized crime group with the aim of sexually exploiting women. They are said to have forced young women to take part in commercially distributed sex videos. So far, six victims have been identified. The Tate brothers deny the allegations.
In the meantime, the prosecutor’s special unit responsible for organized crime, DIICOT, has expanded its investigations. Other properties in the capital Bucharest and the surrounding area were searched. The Tate brothers have been targeted by Romanian investigators since April 2021.
