According to Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), this possibility is provided for in an amendment to the law.
Gewessler announced on Monday in Vienna that anyone who exceeds the speed limit by at least 60 km/h in town or 70 km/h outside of town must expect to lose their car in addition to having their driver’s license temporarily revoked. After examining the previous driving behavior, the decision is then made as to whether the confiscated car will be auctioned.
“Extreme frenzy is life-threatening for all other people on the street,” said the minister. Recently, for example, there was the case of a driver in Vienna who was driving at a speed of 104 in a 30 zone.
In Germany, according to the ADAC, the vehicle can only be confiscated and confiscated after illegal car races.
