Big dough for a British couple: Joe (49) and Jess Thwaite (44) from the city of Gloucester in south-west England won 184.26 million pounds at Euromillions last week. That is more than 220 million Swiss francs. Madness – almost a quarter of a billion!
And that win is a record for Britain. The couple is richer than pop star Adele (34), writes the “BBC”. And like the British singer, the Thwaites now appear to be stars too.
The couple were introduced to the audience at a ceremony by TV presenter Dermot O’Leary (48). Joe Thwaite revealed that he had already quit his job. The man previously worked in communications. Wife Jess is also thinking about what she is doing with her work in a hair salon.
“Time to dream”
The couple received champagne and the giant check. And the obligatory kisses were also exchanged. The couple now have “time to dream,” as wife Jess said.
Jess Thwaite was also dreaming on Tuesday a week ago. It’s the day the couple finds out about their big win. She is still asleep, her husband walks the dogs shortly after 5 a.m. He didn’t know what to do when he found out about the huge sum, he admits: “I couldn’t fall asleep again. I didn’t want to wake Jess up so I just lay there. It felt like an eternity.”

After profit: Looked at luxury real estate in the early morning
But at some point Thwaite got itchy fingers. He goes on the internet and looks at luxury real estate. “Those without a budget limit”. He had never done that before. Then his wife wakes up. Joe Thwaite tells her: «I have a secret. I have to tell you something.”
Now the record profit is no longer a secret. All of Britain knows about it. And the whole kingdom now also knows how the Thwaites live: The family – a couple with two children – recently moved to a rural property. Because Jess Thwaite wanted a “rural lifestyle” for her children, as the “BBC” goes on to say. The family has, among other things, three dogs, five chickens and three ponies.
The family now has the wherewithal to further expand their property. (nl)
