At Facebook’s parent company Meta, the nipple ban is being discussed.
“Free the Nipple” will soon become reality on Facebook and Instagram. Because women’s nipples are forbidden on Instagram, Facebook and Co. – but not those of men. This is about to change soon.
The meta board of directors has called for an overhaul of the company’s rules. More people should be allowed to show their nipples on Instagram and Facebook in the future.
Exceptions are “confusing”
Previously, the platforms partially deleted posts with bare-breasted content. So also those of trans and non-binary people. In a letter dated January 17, the panel now condemned the behavior.
It says: “The procedure is based on a binary view of gender and a distinction between male and female bodies. The restrictions and exceptions for female nipples are extensive and confusing. In addition, this approach creates ambiguity as to how the rules apply to intersex, non-binary and trans people.”
Will female nipples be allowed soon?
It recommends changing the rules on nudity so that “all people are treated according to the same human rights standards – without discrimination on the basis of sex or gender.” The ban on showing female nipples is also shaky. (eu)
