The son and successor of the head of state, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, who resigned in March, has approved the construction of the monument outside the gates of the capital Ashgabat, the state press reported on Monday. The monument will “increase the fame of the Akhal-Teke horse breed,” quoted the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” from a presidential decree.
The stallion played a major role in state propaganda
Ak Khan, a gray horse, played a prominent role in Turkmenistan’s state propaganda for many years. A memorial was unveiled in 2015 depicting the then President on the back of a stallion and holding a dove. In March last year, Berdymukhamedov composed a song to celebrate the birth of a foal sired by Ak Khan.
