IAEA checks safety precautions in all Ukrainian nuclear power plants

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is investigating the safety measures in all Ukrainian nuclear power plants. As IAEA chief Rafael Grossi announced on Friday, a visit to the nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine is planned for next week.

The Khmelnytskyi and Rivne power plants are also to be inspected on site soon. According to Grossi, an IAEA visit to the decommissioned Chernobyl accident reactor has already been carried out.

According to an IAEA report from early November, the organization’s experts could, among other things, evaluate the technical systems and emergency plans of the four plants with regard to safety issues and make possible recommendations. In the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, on the other hand, the IAEA has stationed employees since September who are constantly monitoring the situation in the contested power plant.
