Iran executed former British-Iranian leader Aliresa Akbari on Saturday.
Death sentence in Iran: The British-Iranian ex-leader Aliresa Akbari was executed on charges of espionage.
As the justice portal Misan announced, he was killed on Saturday. Iran had sentenced him to death in a espionage trial for leaking secrets. Akbari, his wife and brother had vehemently denied the allegations in recent days.
As the “BBC” reports, the former Iranian deputy defense minister was arrested in 2019 and convicted of spying for the United Kingdom. However, Akbari has always vehemently denied the allegations.
The UK sided with the politician and urged Iran to stop the planned execution. “This is a politically motivated act by a barbaric regime that has utter disregard for human life,” Secretary of State James Cleverly tweeted. (SDA/dzc)
