New York has been battling a rat infestation for decades.
New York is considered the rat stronghold of the USA. The rodents are now just as much a part of the cityscape as the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty.
Mayor Eric Adams (62) now wants to tackle this problem. According to a BBC report, the city government is now even looking for a “rodent control director” to rid New York residents of the local plague. Means: a supreme Pied Piper. And the job comes with a killer salary. Specifically: 170,000 dollars per year – the equivalent of around 160,000 francs. However, a lot is expected for the money. Expect to be busy 24/7.
The Chief Pied Piper’s responsibilities include developing rat control strategies, managing projects and policy initiatives, and conducting rat control operations. “The ideal candidate is highly motivated and a bit bloodthirsty,” says the advertisement. It is also an advantage if you bring a “daring attitude, humor and a tough aura”.
“Rats will hate this job offer”
With the new position, the city hopes that the rat population will be massively reduced in order to increase cleanliness in New York and prevent the spread of diseases. “Rats will hate this job offer,” the metropolis is certain.
New York has been battling a rat infestation for decades. So far, however, without success. An estimated two million rats crawl through the streets, parks and subway lines every day. According to an official rat ranking by the pest control company Orkin, only Chicago is ahead of the Big Apple. (ced)
