She was one of the first volunteers to volunteer for the war and one of the first at the front. Sandra Eira (35) was a member of the parliament for Norway’s Sami minority until last year. But now the former member of parliament is fighting against the troops of Russian President Vladimir Putin (69), as “Nexta” reports.
When she heard about the invasion of Ukraine, she didn’t hesitate. She left her homeland and went to war. Only the closest family members were initially privy to the plan.
By now everyone knows. But hardly anyone was surprised that she did that, says Eira to “abc nyheter”. She is a fisherman and captain of a fishing trawler. She has been at sea for over ten years and knows what danger means. “If I had been afraid of dying, I would never have been able to work at sea.”
“Always be prepared for grenades and rockets”
But of course war is something completely different than fishing, the fighter admits. Especially at the beginning she had an impressive experience. The noise from rockets, shots and explosions was particularly bad. In the meantime she has gotten used to it and can even fall asleep easily. She cannot say where she is at the moment. Too dangerous!
Just this much: “We are always on standby and in constant motion, and we have to be prepared for shells and rockets at all times,” says Eira. But the biggest challenge is to process the horror that has been experienced. The images in your head. Eira: “Then the hard fight begins.”
She cannot say how long she will remain there. The Norwegian is currently optimistic. She wants to keep fighting Putin’s troops and help Ukraine defend its freedom.

Repelled 14 Russian attacks
Heavy fighting in the Donbass region continues in eastern Ukraine. “The enemy is conducting an offensive in the Lysychansk and Sievjerodonetsk area,” the Ukrainian general staff reported in its situation report on Friday. According to information from Kyiv, the Ukrainian troops were able to repel the attack on Sievjerodonetsk, and fighting is continuing in the suburb of Toschkivka.
A few kilometers further south on the regional border between Luhansk and Donetsk there is fighting for the villages of Wyskrywa and Olexandropillja, about ten kilometers east of the small town of Bakhmut. This is considered another strategic intermediate target of the Russian attacks. The Russian offensive efforts had just as little success here as the ongoing storm attempts in Avdiivka and Kurakhove, according to the situation report. A total of 14 attacks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions were fended off.
In the Kharkiv region, where the Ukrainians have launched a counter-offensive in recent weeks, Kyiv has not been able to report any further territorial gains. The Russians concentrated here on defending their front line. It is said that there are fights around the towns of Ternowa and Wesele. The reports could not be verified independently.
