Terrible scenes played out in Alicante, southern Spain, last Saturday. In the middle of an industrial zone, a truck driver discovered a newborn baby that had been abandoned between barrels.
The mother must have deposited the infant there shortly after birth. According to the Guarda Civil, the alleged mother is a 39-year-old Swiss woman. As the authority writes to Blick, the woman is said to have had no official address in Spain. Instead, she lived in an abandoned house. In addition, the woman is said to be addicted to drugs.
After the woman was arrested and the baby was safely taken to a neonatal unit, it was said that the juvenile prosecutor’s office would decide where little Noa would go. There might already be a solution for this. The truck driver José Enrique Perea, who found the baby, wants to adopt the baby. This is reported by the Spanish newspaper “La Noticia Digital”.
“It is a sign”
As the Guarda Civil announced on Monday, Perea and his colleague Luis María Rocamora made a significant contribution to Noa’s quick rescue. The driver Rocamora was already taken aback when a woman with bloodied legs came towards him. He quickly contacted fellow driver Enrique Perea to be careful when passing.
A few moments later, Perea arrived at the industrial area, got out and found a woman carrying blankets in her arms. He immediately alerted the police, whereupon the newborn could be found and rescued a short time later.
José Enrique Perea and his wife Ana are now considering adopting the baby. “My wife thinks it’s a sign,” says Perea to the Spanish newspaper. Co-worker Luis María Rocamora and his partner are to take on the roles of godparents.
Rocky road to adoption
However, the whole project is probably not that easy. The authorities in Valencia currently have guardianship of the newborn. DNA tests are currently being carried out to determine whether the woman is in fact the child’s mother.
If this is the case, it is first checked whether someone in their family wants to take responsibility for the baby. If this is not the case, the baby can either be adopted by a foster family or placed in a children’s home.
Although there are still many questions to be answered, the two truck drivers are overjoyed that they were able to save the baby and thus spare him a tragic fate. (dzc)
