According to meteorologists, the maximum value was 49.5 degrees in Jacobabad in the province of Sindh. The weather service predicted similarly high temperatures in the coming days.

“It’s like there’s a fire all around,” said Shafi Mohammad, a worker from a Jacobabad suburb. According to the weather service, temperatures across the country were six to nine degrees above the seasonal average. “We switched from winter directly to summer this year,” said meteorologist Zaheer Ahmad Babar. There have been heat waves since 2015, but the intensity and duration have increased.
