Mike Pence makes it clear that he takes “full responsibility” for the secret documents found on him.
After finding secret documents in the private home of former US Vice President Mike Pence (63), he admitted to clear mistakes. “Mistakes have happened. And now I take full responsibility for that,” Pence said at an event in Florida on Friday.
He continued: “While I was not aware that this classified information was in our private home, let me make one thing clear: this classified information should not have been there.”
Secret documents at Pence, Trump and Biden
In the past few weeks, documents with confidential markings have appeared in the private rooms of US President Joe Biden (79). Findings from ex-President Donald Trump (75) had already caused a stir last summer.
On Tuesday it was announced that secret files from his tenure as Vice President had also been found at Pence’s. It was said that his lawyer discovered her. They were then picked up by the federal police.
Trump denies guilt
Biden offers full cooperation in his files affair, but does not say he will take responsibility. Trump even claims that he has never made a mistake. He said about the files affair: “The difference is that I did everything right – I didn’t do anything wrong – Biden did everything wrong.”
The finds are sensitive for all three politicians, because it is not allowed to store confidential government documents privately after leaving office. The National Archives are responsible for this in the USA.
Pence wants to be a resident
Pence served as Vice President Trump from 2017 to 2021. Pence is expected to want to run for president in the 2024 election.
However, he would first have to assert himself in the internal party primaries against Trump, who has already announced his candidacy. The Democrat Biden is also said to have ambitions for a renewed candidacy for the White House. So far, neither Biden nor Pence have officially declared their candidacy. (euc/SDA)
