wave of infection weakened
The number of corona deaths in China has fallen by almost 80 percent
According to official figures, the number of daily corona deaths in China has fallen by almost 80 percent since the beginning of January.
According to official figures, almost 60,000 people died of Corona in China between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023.
As the Chinese disease control center announced on Wednesday, the country’s hospitals reported 896 deaths on Monday that were attributable to a corona infection. This is a decrease of 79 percent compared to January 4th.
The number of severe Covid 19 cases fell from 128,000 on January 5 to 36,000 on Monday – a decrease of 72 percent. According to Chinese authorities and state media, the corona wave in the People’s Republic peaked at the end of December and beginning of January. However, the authorities then warned of a new wave of infections as a result of the massive travel traffic for the Chinese New Year celebrations last Sunday.
End of the zero covid policy
In mid-December, the government in Beijing gave up its long-standing, strict zero-Covid policy. The number of infections increased explosively. Almost 60,000 people in China died from the disease between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023, according to official figures.
Experts consider the number of victims given by China’s authorities to be far too low. In December, Chinese authorities changed the way they counted corona deaths. Only corona infected people who died directly due to respiratory failure are still counted as corona dead. As a result, many deaths are no longer included in the corona statistics.
