On Tuesday morning, the year is almost three days old, Radio SRF 1 makes the riots on New Year’s Eve the main topic in the news: In Berlin, a mob shot fireworks at residential buildings, passers-by and emergency services. 41 police officers and 15 firefighters were injured.
The words that the Swiss national broadcaster sends into the ether sound a lot tamer. With a soft voice, the presenter reports at prime time on the “people” on the streets of the German capital who have allowed themselves to be carried away by violence. Good thing it wasn’t donkeys or chimpanzees.
To put things in perspective, a reporter from Germany explains the causes of the escalation to the Confederates: First comes the government, which failed to issue a general ban on firecrackers. Then there is the rule of law, which does not crack down more consistently, the authorities who play some kind of “buck game”, the courts who punish too little harshly, and last but not least the law enforcement officers themselves who cannot manage to gain more authority.
Everyone else is to blame for the primitive action: the circumstances, the public, politics.
Isn’t there anyone missing? Exactly: The perpetrators – practically without exception boys and men – are only mentioned in passing, who shot at people from a few meters away with signal rockets and alarm guns, lured the fire brigade into ambushes and smashed the windshield of an ambulance with a fire extinguisher.
Opinion makers prefer to talk vaguely about “juvenile violence” – as if an average collection of adolescent women and men had taken action on the Spree. This is an expression of a widespread attitude in the West, which, for well-meaning motives, is increasingly practicing political self-castration and even celebrates itself for it.
In this way one avoids stating the unpleasant fact that the destructive force stems from a very specific subculture, which is expressed in lifestyle, consumption and rap music, for which women are «cunts» and «bitches», and homosexuals as «fags» in the friendliest case » and elevates the law of the thumb to a kind of vulgar philosophy.
Whether the individual delinquent is called Armin or Ahmed, Karl or Karim is irrelevant. The breeding ground exists, it develops in Europe’s suburbs from Brussels to Berlin, from Manchester to Marseille and is shaped by immigration from Islamic countries from North Africa to the Middle East. But out of fear of being accused of “agitation”, the Justemilieu is content with the Marxist cliché of the exploited losers in modernization.
There is no doubt that there is a tragic problem among the classes, and the bourgeois majority society certainly shares responsibility for the formation of ghettos in the prefabricated housing estates, which serve as a cheap reservoir of labour. It is also true that the world is far from equal opportunities and that social mobility is low; on the other hand, wealth concentration is increasing, also in Switzerland.
However, this knee-jerk victimization, the victim stamp for violent criminals who yell their hatred in Arabic into cell phone cameras, unfortunately has no other long-term effect than harming the innocent members of these communities.
In the long run, only one force in Switzerland will benefit from the dishonest handling of this problem and from the selective reporting on it: the SVP.
