Joe Biden keeps jetting off to his private residence in Delaware.
US President Joe Biden (79) likes to spend time at his home in Wilmington, Delaware. He uses it as a weekend residence next to the White House.
His predecessor Donald Trump (76) had to take a lot of criticism because he often played golf. Now Biden also has to face criticism.
Is Biden loafing in Delaware?
According to the New York Post, since taking office in January 2021, he has traveled to his private home in Delaware 52 times. He spent 164 days wholly or partially at the residence.
But what is he doing there? The White House initially defended Biden’s frequent trips home against claims he was loafing. Press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters last February that the president could “work from anywhere.”
Delaware residency is private
Suddenly, however, the White House wants the house to be considered “private.” This was after the scandal surrounding Biden’s handling of classified information became known. The house in Delaware where secret documents were found is not a government outpost.
According to US media, this is a strategy to avoid having to publish visitor logs. The Secret Service also said this week that it does not keep logs of visitors to the “private residence.”
What exactly is going on at Biden’s Delaware home, or who is visiting him there, is largely unclear. (eu)
