13 million a year is too much for him

Twitter boss Elon Musk wants to scrap free food

In the future, Twitter employees will apparently have to pay for their meals. On Sunday, Elon Musk announced that he wanted to remove the free food offer because the costs were too high.

Twitter employees will apparently have to do without free meals at the headquarters in San Francisco in the future.

Twitter boss Elon Musk (51) is on an austerity course: after recently laying off 7,500 employees and growling the rest to 84-hour weeks, he is now also cutting the free food offer at Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco. On Sunday, Musk announced on Twitter that the catering offer was too expensive for the company. Twitter spent around $400 per employee. That would add up to $13 million a year, the billionaire estimates.

It is an unprofitable business for the company to offer free food. “Almost nobody comes to the office anymore,” writes the Twitter boss. “There are more people who prepare breakfast than people who eat it.” The kitchen staff wouldn’t even prepare dinner anymore because nobody was in the building anymore.
